It is not what you look at that matters, it is what you see.
— Henry David Thoreau
Muddy Company
Every road trip — heck, every car ride — we're craning our necks to take in the world around us. Newlywed and full of dreams, when we look at property we see possibilities. "This is the perfect place for a couple food trucks." "We renovate this house, your cousin could live in this one, and we rent out the last one to a friend." "We could probably fit 10 RVs on that lot." No joke, our wedding registry had a section labeled "RV Park fund."
Muddy Company is the beginning of making those dreams a little closer to reality. Land. We're born on it, live on it, laugh on it, cry on it, and fly up into the sky just to come back down and explore a new piece of it. Land is the one thing all of us stand on, and we'd love to see as much of it as we can before we go back to the mud.

I grew up an Adair, and land was part of my life long before I was a Williford. My dad was buying and selling land before I was born, but what I remember most is him at every one of my soccer games. Land is what bought him that time. He grew in me an appreciation for what a piece of ground is worth, and for the endless possibilities the world has to offer if you have the perseverance to make it happen.
I came up with the name Muddy Company, not because it was clever, but because muddy is what I liked doing best. On a summer research trip in Mississippi, I found myself covered in mud every single day after documenting aquatic life in the river. I had the time of my life. Hiking in the Grand Canyon gave me an unshakeable sense of the epic grandeur of nature. Now I want to teach my own family that same appreciation — for nature, for getting your hands dirty, for time spent together.

I moved around a lot growing up in Virginia, and I was blessed to experience the beauty of raw land from the flats of Virginia Beach to the Appalachian mountains. Some of the best views in the state were within an hour's drive of where I lived through my teenage years.
In the summers my dad would pick up my sisters and me in a Class A motorhome — the only thing that would comfortably accommodate 8 kids on a drive to Florida. He'd been in RV sales for as long as I can remember, and the best part was spending the night in the Busch Gardens parking lot so we could hit all the rides before the waits got unbearable. I became an RV service tech as an adult and got captured by people's stories about where they'd been. Now I work with a custom home builder and invest in land, so that one day my family and I can hop in a motorhome and go see what America has to offer.
If your dreams include buying your first acre, or selling one you no longer need, we'd love to hear from you.
